From the Heart to Haiti

The Barefootin' for Haiti Golf Tournament has helped fund numerous projects at the Coq Chante all girls orphanage in Haiti. On January 12th, those projects and many of the improvements to the facilities were destroyed in the deadly earthquake.

Hundreds of miles away from Knoxville, the volunteer hands extend help and hope to the people of Haiti.

Haiti still hurting

Haiti still hurting

10News' Russell Biven finds that life and death stare each other in the face, as the margin between the two is smaller than ever on the island of Haiti.

WBIR has been honored to help countless local organizations and families for more than fifty years.

East Tennessee will always remain our focus. We care deeply about our community and its needs.

But while reporting in earthquake ravaged Haiti, I personally saw such incredible suffering, especially on the faces of children, who no longer have family.

We at Channel 10 simply could not turn our heads and hope someone else steps up.

For that reason, we hope you join us in a campaign called "From the heart to Haiti."

It's an effort to rebuild an orphanage, already supported by east tennesseans, that was completely destroyed. The youngest girl, Atanie was killed.

This new facility will be named after her and overseen by East Tennesseans, who will be on sight every step of the way.

Please consider donating to this cause by going to www.atanieshope.org (click here).

Finally, to all those in our community who have volunteered your services following the earthquake, God bless you.

I know you have seen things unimaginable.

The Volunteer spirit is alive and well.
