A team is working to restore the home known as "the Energy House" during the World's Fair to now serve as an energy efficient family home.

The 1880's era Victorian house near World's Fair Park was donated to Knox Heritage in 2009. Since then, a team of volunteer architects and designers have worked to restore the home using green and sustainable building materials in order to qualify the home for LEED certification. Homes with LEED certification have to meet certain eco-friendly building requirements in order to achieve that status.

The group opened up the home for the public to see how the process was going on Saturday afternoon. "One of the main things we're doing is incorporating solar technology. Trying to show you how you can have solar and blend is seamlessly with historic characters. We'll have a standing metal roof that will collect solar energy and turn it into electricity but will be invisible and have a solar hot water system. showing you can have it both, have it both ways," explained Kim Trent Executive Director of Knox Heritage.

Knox Heritage will have workshops and open houses all through the summer until the house is finished in September. The house will then be put on the market to be sold.
